Indigenous Lands & Lives are Threatened
~ WHO ~
The Emergency Global Alliance (EGA) is a neutral, volunteer-based, self-organized global coalition of working groups consisting of organizations and individuals committed to raise awareness and resources in support the of Indigenous People of the Amazon rainforest who are severely affected by COVID19 and continuously threatened by unlawful incursions of their territories.
We have emerged from the urgency of this emergency and are responding to their desperate pleas en masse, in action.
~ HOW ~
~ WHY ~
Brazil’s Congress is slated to pass eminent decisions on several key laws affecting the land distribution of the Brazilian Amazon, choosing to support the foreign corporations over the sovereignty of the original peoples of the Amazon.
These legislation bills are life-changing for the planet because they aimed to cancel all the major protections for the Amazon River Basin and the guardians of the forest, the indigenous peoples, clearing the way for unconstrained development and an acceleration of deforestation at an unprecedented rate.
It is estimated that these decisions will push the Amazon rainforest past its ecological tipping point of 25% deforestation, precipitating a catastrophe cascading systems collapse affecting all life on Earth. Humanity must draw the line here.
Will this be the finest hour for our species or our final hour collectively?
GUARDIANS OF THE FOREST ARE CALLING FOR HELP FROM THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY
WE CHOOSE TO STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE OF AMAZÔNIA
Without a vaccination plan, basic requirements, resources, or oxygen, Amazonas fights for Life!
We are calling upon the international community for immediate emergency disaster relief.
COVID 19 is adding to the already devastating pressure of escalating encroachment and deforestation.
The public calamity that Manaus finds itself in is proof that Covid-19 is a global crisis ... and it is far from over.
We need to remain mobilized in a massive network of solidarity to address the failure against Amazônas by governments.
We know that protecting the Guardians of the Forest is protecting humanity ... and the world.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, several regional initiatives have been created by social movements, collectives, educational institutions, and civil society forums to support the vulnerable communities of indigenous peoples, people living with HIV, groups of mothers, LGBT people, migrant workers, and several populations who are in situations of great crisis at this moment of time. We are supporting these campaigns.
We are joining forces to keep fighting for life and pressing governments to fulfill their mandates!
Our focus at this time is to meet the urgent needs for emergency water, food, hygiene, cleaning products,
oxygen, supplies, and other vital equipment for medical, health, and personal protection.
IF THE AMAZON SURVIVES, THEN LIFE ON EARTH SURVIVES
